Plaisir Solide juxtapose et superpose les sources des recherches artistiques d’Hélène Bellenger et Charlotte Perrin menées au 3bisF, lieu de création pluridisciplinaire situé dans le centre hospitalier psychiatrique Montperrin, à Aix-en-Provence.

Par le biais d’un long travail d’enquête et de collection les deux artistes plasticiennes interrogent respectivement les structures visuelles et formelles de notre quotidien. Si Charlotte Perrin pioche dans les archives et les modes d’emploi pour mieux se réapproprier les matériaux et jouer avec l’histoire des techniques, de l’architecture et du mobilier, Hélène Bellenger s’empare d’une série de publicités pour anxiolytiques et antidépresseurs, datées des années 1970 à 2000 et collectées dans le fonds de documentation de l’hôpital psychiatrique, pour interroger de manière plus large la représentation d’un bonheur normé.

En confrontant leurs recherches personnelles sous forme de collages, Hélène Bellenger et Charlotte Perrin proposent une troisième forme visuelle. Sorte « d’effet Koulechov », la confrontation de deux images issues des corpus respectifs des deux artistes produit une image mentale indépendante de leurs sources, tout en faisant appel à nos imaginaires collectifs.

Plaisir Solide juxtaposes and layers the artistic research of Hélène Bellenger and Charlotte Perrin, carried out at 3bisF, a multidisciplinary arts center located within the Montperrin psychiatric hospital in Aix-en-Provence.

Through extensive investigation and collection, the two visual artists each explore the visual and formal structures of everyday life.

While Charlotte Perrin draws from archives and user manuals to reappropriate materials and play with the histories of technique, architecture, and furniture, Hélène Bellenger focuses on a series of advertisements for anxiolytics and antidepressants—dating from the 1970s to the 2000s—found in the psychiatric hospital’s documentation center. Her work questions the broader representation of a normalized, idealized notion of happiness.

By confronting their personal research through collages, Bellenger and Perrin create a third visual form. This kind of “Kuleshov effect”—the juxtaposition of two images from their respective collections—produces a mental image detached from the original sources, while resonating with our shared cultural imagination.
