PLACEBO LANDSCAPE - 2014 / 2016

PLACEBO LANDSCAPE - 2014 / 2016
An azure blue sky on a packet of handkerchiefs, a white sand beach on a matchbox, a beautiful sun on a wallet or an aurora borealis on a mug, the objects used within the framework of this project were collected on flea market, internet or in Finnish tourist offices. In the Placebo Landscape project, the perpetual resumption of the landscape motif in commercial imagery is exhausted by its repetition until the link with the primary referent is lost. What Jean Baudrillard called “industrial culturality”, illustrates here a derealized relationship to landscape. The paradigm of the postcard here becomes a medium of consumption. Fragmented, dissolved, landscape representations are thus shown as objectified. Begun in 2014, as part of a six-month residency in Finland, these various installations are inspired in particular by Ed Ruscha's landscape paintings.
